2. Implementation

Latin is taught once a week in every class from year 3 to year 6. The school follows the Minimus scheme which is based on the lives of a real family who lived at the Roman fort of Vindolanda.

Each chapter contains a bank or words to remember, opportunities to translate stories and information on the historical context when Latin was spoken. One of the most popular activities is exploring well known Greek myths.

Within each lesson, there are opportunities for formative assessment. These are either verbal assessments or written tasks in the accompanying workbook where feedback can be given and misconceptions corrected on the spot. At the end of each chapter, there is an additional assessment in the form of an interactive, multiple choice quiz.

All staff were trained in using and delivering the Minimus scheme in the summer of 2020 and any additional training and support is given by the subject leader as required.
