Wokingham New Age Kurling

23rd January 2017
The first tournament of the calendar year brought the New Age Kurling Team to Woodford Park to compete against seven Wokingham primary schools. The team of four from Shinfield St Mary’s were extremely excited but there were still a lot of nerves flying around! The eight schools were split into two groups and a round-robin format of play commenced. As the first game got underway, the children relaxed and began to play some fantastic accurate and tactical Kurling shots. After winning two of their three opening games, Shinfield St Mary’s went through as runners up in their group to play the winners of the second group. A tight fought game ensued but Shinfield St Mary’s emerged triumphant to progress into the final! There they met a school they had already played and beaten from their round-robin group, so confidence was high going into their final match. Four ends later, the final stone was thrown and Shinfield St Mary’s were crowned the winners and gold medallists, making them the Wokingham New Age Kurling Champions! They will now go and represent Wokingham at Bisham Abbey at the Berkshire School Games.

Robert Mack, a professional photographer, attended on behalf of Shinfield St Mary’s and captured the whole tournament in some high quality photographs. He will be attending all future competitions and tournaments, providing parents with the opportunity to purchase action-shots of their child competing.
