School Games – Year 3/4 Football

5th October 2017

On Thursday 5th October, the Year 3/4 football squad travelled to Reddam House to compete to earn a place in the Wokingham Finals. With the sun shining, the children disembarked from the school minibus and made their way to the freshly cut pitches with much excitement (and a few nerves!). The eight schools in attendance played a round-robin tournament, with the top four schools joining the top four schools of the second tournament run later that day, in the Wokingham Finals. Shinfield St. Mary’s started positively and managed a win, loss and goalless draw in their first three matches. As the tournament matches came to their conclusion, unbeknown to us, Shinfield needed a win in the last game to claim fourth spot and a place in the Wokingham Finals. Thanks to a goal in the last ten seconds of the game to make the score 1-0, the squad were thrilled to hear that they had made it through! Having only conceded three goals in the seven matches played, it was clear that Shinfield’s goalkeeper and defence had had a brilliant tournament.

With the finals rained off last week, they will now take place after the Christmas holidays, so watch this space!
