Wokingham Football League Division 3 Champions!

25th June 2019

It was the final game of the football season for the boys yesterday as Shinfield St. Mary’s hosted Winnersh Primary School at the Reading Goals Centre. The match was the final of Division 3 and despite it being outside of the football season, the boys were extremely excited at the prospect of potentially lifting a shield for the second time in as many years.

It was a horrifically humid day and as the game began, it became clear that it was going to be a long 40 minutes. As the match was being played in an enclosed pitch, the ball only went out of play when it went behind the goal – no rest for the players! Shinfield St. Mary’s went 1-0 down early on, but brought it back to 1-1. The crossbar was rattled four times and the post twice from Shinfield’s shots – agonisingly close each time. They then went into half time 2-1 down but recovered with true fighting spirit to not only make the score 2-2, but finish with a 4-2 score line in favour of Shinfield St. Mary’s! It was the perfect way to end the Year 6’s time on the football field and along with Mr Lincoln, Mr Lappin cannot thank the boys enough for their dedication over the past two years for their school team.
