Wokingham School Games Kwik Cricket Tournament

21st June 2018

On one of the hottest days of the year, Shinfield’s two cricket squads attended the annual competition at Wokingham Cricket Club. With Mr Lincoln leading the boys’ team and Mr Lappin the girls’ team, the children began their great games with much excitement, hoping to showcase their bowling, batting and fielding that they had developed during the term’s cricket practices. Both squads emerged from the group stage with a 100% win ratio and the knockout stages began! Unfortunately, it was not to be for the boys as they were eliminated in the quarter finals but Mr Lincoln was extremely proud of the boys, especially the Year 4 boys who stepped up to play in the Year 5/6 tournament. Meanwhile, Mr Lappin and the girls’ team win through their semi-finals and met Willowbank in the final. Having already beaten Willowbank in the group stages, the girls felt confident and it showed in their fantastic bowling performance. When the result was announced at the end of the final, it was disappointment for Shinfield as they discovered that they had lost by 3 runs! The girls collected their well-earned silver medals but were pleasantly surprised when it was announced that both Willowbank AND Shinfield go through to the Berkshire Cricket Finals on Thursday 19th July. An amazing outcome after such hard work by all the children!
