Wokingham School Games Quadkids Year 5/6

10th June 2019

A team of Year 5/6 children attended the annual Quadkids competition at Palmer Park Stadium. It was the first time that many of the ten strong team had competed in an athletics stadium with a cheering crowd so there were some understandable nerves on the minibus journey. Each child was allocated an athlete number which was used to record their scores against as they competed in the four disciplines – 75m, 600m, standing long jump and howler throw. Each athlete’s measurement was converted into points and then totalled with their teammates’ points. As Mr Lappin was in charge of the scoring for the morning event in the scoring box, he had a clear view of the track and he was immensely proud of the resilience shown by the Shinfield St. Mary’s children in all four events. The 600m race is viewed to be the toughest event but our children showed that you do not have to go to an athletics club outside of school to set fast times! The results from the day were sent to the schools this morning and Shinfield St. Mary’s finished an all-time high of 5th place out of 21 schools. A special note goes to one Shinfield St. Mary’s boy who achieved more points in all four disciplines than any child in Wokingham, beating 209 other children! The ten children who competed were a credit to the school and showed their sporting ability on a regional level – well done!
