Wokingham School Games Year 3/4 Football Qualifier

19th September 2018

A squad of nine eager year 3 and 4 children descended upon Willowbank Junior School (this year’s hosts) on Wednesday to compete in the Wokingham School Games qualifying tournament. The schools were told that the top four teams from the day would progress through to the Wokingham Finals, with the chance to compete to represent Wokingham at the Winter Berkshire Finals.

It was the first time that the boys and girls had played together so Mr Lappin did not know what to expect, but he was confident that it wouldn’t take long for the individuals involved to be playing high quality football. He was proven right as Shinfield started off with a 0-0 draw, then followed it with a 2-1 win, 1-1 draw and a 3-0 win. Finishing second in the group by only a point, the children had to play one final knockout game to make it through to the Wokingham Finals. Confidence high, the Shinfield squad put on a majestic performance and swept away their opponents in a 3-0 win.

On Wednesday 10th October, they will compete at The Piggott School with matches refereed by the school’s 6th form academy students. Watch this space!
