Wokingham School Games Year 3/4 Tennis

15th June 2018

Shinfield Tennis Club once again hosted the Year 3/4 tennis tournament and due to a school dropping out a few days before, Shinfield St. Mary’s were allowed to bring a second team. This gave 8 more children from Year 3 the chance to compete against Year 4s from other schools. Both Shinfield St. Mary’s ‘A’ Team and ‘B’ Team did not show any nerves as they warmed up on the courts and it was extremely pleasing to see their determination to win for their school and team mates! As the singles matches progressed, Shinfield St. Mary’s children were consistently walking off the courts with smiles on their faces – always a good sign! All the matches were umpired by the players, without adult intervention, so it gave them the opportunity to practise scoring accurately and consistently. After a highly successful group of games, the first semi-final was announced – Shinfield ‘A’ vs Shinfield ‘B’! Shinfield ‘A’ emerged triumphant and met Willowbank in the final but unfortunately fell at the final hurdle, claiming silver medals. On the 3rd vs 4th playoff game, Shinfield ‘B’ won and collected their well-deserved bronze medals. Mr Lappin was so proud of the success of both teams and excited by their potential going forward into next year!
