Wokingham Schools Year 3/4 Mixed Football Tournament Qualifier

26th September 2019
The first sports tournament of the year got underway in the form of the Year 3/4 mixed gender football tournament. It was a qualifying event with another identical event taking place the day before, resulting in four schools from each day progressing through to the official Wokingham Schools Year 3/4 Mixed Football Finals. With three children competing for the school for the first time, Mr Lappin was delighted to see the eagerness of the squad and they arrived with plenty of excitement and enthusiasm. They competed in four 7-a-side matches and they managed to win two, only losing two in the process. This was an incredible feat as they were the only school to rotate their goalkeeper each game they played, ensuring that all the boys and girls got equal playing time on pitch. The Shinfield St. Mary’s squad were then overjoyed to hear that they would be progressing to the Wokingham Finals after scoring one more goal than another school who finished on equal points – a great achievement. It was a super start to the sporting calendar and seeing the children’s beaming smiles the next day at school as they rushed to tell their friends and Mrs Runciman the news made Mr Lappin extremely happy!
